In reply to <a href="https://travelingboy.com/adventure/interview-test/#comment-973">Larry</a>.

Thanks for the compliments Larry.

Even though I grew up in the Philippines, English has always been my primary language. This is typical for a lot of Filipinos. Almost all Filipinos speak English although the accent is different. In fact, I think Filipinos spell better than most Americans.

You are quite the film buff and historian. Impressed.

Sorry about that Oscar. It was my mistake. Thanks for pointing this out. I fixed it already.

Glad you agree with me re: Hollywood.

Just think: you can become a star! You just gotta do it yourself. 😂

No TGIF Email from Raoul today.

So I went to traveling boy and shared it but I couldn’t find the Joke ( interview test ) 😂😂😂🤷‍♂️.

But I was able to read about the movie stuff .

Yeah it’s crazy when people get a reality check and realize money can’t buy power or even justify the Guilty . Only God is our most powerful person and the only one that can Justify us . Please send me the Joke if you can Raoul.

🙏❤️❤️❤️😊

Bravo!

Hollywood has always been glitz and glamour with very little substance.

I took a few classes in film history. The French, like Jean Renoir’s, The Grand Illusion and Italian and British films and directors were much more interesting than the Steven Spielberg’s and George Lucas’s.

I know you think I am an old fuddy duddy, but I prefer silent films.

Chaplin and Keaton for American comedies.

Of the old American Hollywood epics, The Ten Commandments with Charlton Heston as Moses is a favorite.

For Musicals, Singing in the Rain.

Look what Hollywood did to poor Marilyn Monroe. Suicide by drowning in her pool. The Star System has always been broken down and based on no substance. Just sad.

As always Sir, a very good job with the American lingo better than me.

Are you sure you weren’t born in LA?

Interesting newsletter today. You talked about a peeve of mine: people who tell a story in prose and call it poetry. In our writers' group we had one of those. I consider myself a poet and my poetry always rhymes. I think some of my poems are actually good. But anytime someone attends a poets group — even a good one — the poets look down their noses at people who rhyme their poems. An acquaintance of mine, who was a well known poet in our circle, told me about the poetry group she was in. I said I’d like to attend and that my poems rhyme. She just shook her head.

Your prejudices were showing today, my friend (especially those hmmms). However, you did a mea culpa at the end, so I guess you’re forgiven.

As I was reading your email, I was struck by how good a writer you are. I would have thought you grew up here, not the Philippines.

You know the American lingo better than me. Now, as to poetry. I thought about sending you a poem I wrote yesterday about being a slave to the thoughts of the past, but I knew your critical ear would not hear my words properly.

I don’t know much about Mexican culture. I know they are family oriented. I know Koreans are. In Korean, you refer to people as older brother, or sister, or Uncle, who are not blood related.

For Filipinos, I believe there is a similar family feeling. Only when I taught ESL, did I really learn anything about different cultures.

Cudos to you for venturing out to a Mexican poetry evening. You have balls. Pardon my use of English.

New vistas to explore. Great job, Mi Amigo. As Schwarzenegger said, “Hasta La Vista, Baby.”
