My cousins and I had a combo in Manila, back in the 60s, and we covered a lot of the Beatles songs. I liked their first albums the best — the ones where it was just the 4 of them. I memorized all their songs.

Thanks for the brief but beautiful reminder of the greatness of John. To this day I recall those debut performances on Sullivan with a mix of joy and awe. It’s impossible to describe to anyone who wasn’t there. And, much like the assassination of JFK, I will never forget where I was when I learned John was senselessly gunned down.
