The Lion sweeps tonight! Love it! Didn't know you were crazy about Disney art and Disneyland as a child. I was crazy about Hayley Mills in the Disney movies. I painted two large portraits of her in pastel on heavy white pastel art board and sent them to Disney as a teenager. Of course, they sent them back so Walt never saw them. Wish I had kept them. I think I threw them away sometime in my adult years. Disney affected lots of us. I even worked at Disneyland out of high school. I had hoped to have a glamorous costume and job on main street or by the Pirates of Carribean, but I ended up in the kitchen in Tomorrowland. Just making hamburgers for 17,000 people!

I enjoyed your very informative newsletter, sharing inside info about Disneyland artists. Because of your nice 9/11 tribute, you can be forgiven for the weird rant last week.

I made my first trip to Disneyland in 1964. I received a little pamphlet showing the history of the place.

At that time, the monorail was supposed to have been the transportation of the future.

I grew up in a place that was built along the train tracks.

Mount Prospect, Illinois was incorporated in 1917, along the Northwestern Line, going into Chicago and west towards Iowa.

I took the train both ways. Train travel is still my favorite form of transportation.

I have fond memories of taking the overnight train from Madrid to Barcelona.

Back to Disney. My grandmother got me the monthly Disney comic book. Mickey, Donald Duck, the whole crew.

I ended up liking Charlie Brown and collected all the Peanuts books. I am not the artist you are.

Just an ordinary kid who found his own interests.

Your cartoon that says play an instrument and you will be poor forever? Come on. Tell that to some rock star like McCartney or James Taylor or whomever.

I know growing up in the Philippines you were always aware of American culture and traditions.

In South Korea, they are as well, but with their own particular way of understanding American culture. The war and military culture influenced them much more than the Philippines.

While KPOP is heavily influenced by American music, it has its own distinctive style.

Long story short. Good job Sir. Rush job that it was.

Faith shows the reality of what we hope for; it is the evidence of things we cannot see.
