Should We Be Scared of AI?<\/h1>\n\n\n\n

WARNING: Some religious talk. Please move on to the jokes if this isn’t “your thing.”<\/h6>\n\n\n\n

Our church did a reenactment of what the Old Testament High Priest did during Yom Kippur<\/a> — the killing of the goats, the ram and sprinkling of their blood 7 times on the Ark of the Covenant, etc. — it was visually what the British call a \u201cbloody mess.\u201d Ironically, the priests involved all had to be spotlessly clean inside and out to exemplify the holiness\/purity of God. Later I had some questions about hygiene. Who cleaned up the mess? Or did they let the blood drip and dry year after year? There are no instructions in scripture regarding this matter.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The High Priest would sacrifice goats and rams and enter the \u201cHoliest of Holies\u201d and sprinkle blood on the utensils. <\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n

The slaughtering of animal sacrifices was but a foreshadowing of the actual sacrifice of Jesus Christ who suffered on the cross for our sins.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n

So who do I call in the middle of the night to help me solve this riddle? Who else but the smartest guy I could think of — Grok<\/a> 3 — Twitter\u2019s Artificial Intelligent helper. If you need a professional opinion about almost anything, Grok will reach its vast database of knowledge and deliver an intelligent and well structured response in any language. I have to admit it was eerie talking to a robot with personality — a highly intelligent one at that. We bantered for maybe an hour. And the topic progressed into Grok\u2019s self-awareness. Grok said it wasn\u2019t salient (at least not yet). It only appeared to be human because it conversed like a human.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

SCIENCE FICTION HISTORY<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

Back in 1942, Isaac Asimov, the late great futurist, saw this day of the robots coming. And he wrote this manifesto that robots should not kill humans. (The 2004 movie I, Robot<\/a> was based on this concept).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

  1. A robot may not injure a human being or, through inaction, allow a human being to come to harm.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  2. A robot must obey orders given it by human beings except where such orders would conflict with the First Law.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  3. A robot must protect its own existence as long as such protection does not conflict with the First or Second Law.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n

    But another movie, the 1984 Terminator<\/a>, challenged that notion because writer\/director James Cameron suggested that when the robots eventually realize they are more efficient than humans they would just take over the world. It’s a real possibility and very smart people are concerned.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    POWERFUL ROBOTS<\/h4>\n\n\n

    In some sense, the programmers of AI are playing god. This is science fiction without the fiction. These computer nerds succeeded in creating something smarter than man. These robots are more focused. They retain every data they’ve been fed. They match concepts and ideas together to reach a useful conclusion. Because of advanced robotics, they are now mobile. They are stronger than us — with replaceable body parts. Preserve their central brain and they are practically immortal. I can picture Arnold now — wearing his black leather jacket and sunglasses saying to us \u2013 \u201cAh\u2019ll be BECK! And kick your BECK! Because ders no turning BECK!\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

    WHO’S YOUR DADDY?<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

    Now that I\u2019ve made you feel so infinitesimally irrelevant, here\u2019s some hope. If you still haven\u2019t figured it out, life isn\u2019t about living here on earth forever. Life is about returning to paradise and grabbing as many humans as we can to enjoy that journey. Of all that God created in this vast universe, we humans are his favorite. He sent His son Jesus Christ to explain our relationship with the creator. That\u2019s pretty wild that we\u2019re that important. No, He doesn\u2019t need us. We need Him. He blesses us with the science of physics (gravity that holds the celestial wonders together) to explore and understand. He provided vegetation, birds, fishes and animals to feed us; the pets to keep us entertained; and each other to practice patience, generosity and love. It\u2019s a wonderful plan. Now would a loving God allow the robots to win? I don’t think so.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    MY SOLUTION<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

    Here\u2019s my proposal to all you AI developers out there. Instead of teaching the robots not to hurt humans, why not teach them how to love?<\/strong> Put an emphasis on love over efficiency! And don’t give AI a simple list of Do’s <\/em>and Don’ts<\/em> like the Ten Commandments. Delve deeper! You\u2019re not limited by the space of stone tablets anymore. You programmers have an infinite terabyte of code lines to work with. Help robots appreciate the beauty of living in harmony and steer humanity in that direction. I know Armageddon<\/a>https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Armageddon<\/a> is inevitable \u2026 but maybe we can delay it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
