They may be happy, sad, playful, religious, political, narrative, poetic, etc. The more creative and the more honest, the better. Years \u2026 centuries from now, some alien ship will find this website and will wonder what mankind was all about. Your articles will answer a lot of their questions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading has-text-align-right\">Guest writer: Heather Kobler<\/h5>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-drop-cap has-text-align-left\">I re-watched the first three seasons of \u201c<em><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/The_Bear_(TV_series)\">The Bear<\/a><\/em>\u201d on the Hula Network last weekend.\u00a0 The 4<sup>th<\/sup> season starts on June 25<sup>th<\/sup>.\u00a0 The Bear is filmed almost exclusively in Chicago. \u00a0Watching it invoked many of my childhood memories because I know every street, bridge, and landmark that they filmed it in and I consider Chicago my incubator!\u00a0 I remember the sound of the milk man\u2019s truck delivering milk and cream, the peddler that cried out, <em>\u201cRags &amp; Old Irons!\u201d<\/em>, and the lady who played music on the Barrel Organ.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"576\" height=\"854\" src=\"https:\/\/travelingboy.com\/adventure\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/Heather-home.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-2033\" srcset=\"https:\/\/travelingboy.com\/adventure\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/Heather-home.jpg 576w, https:\/\/travelingboy.com\/adventure\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/Heather-home-202x300.jpg 202w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 576px) 100vw, 576px\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">17 E. Erie between State and Rush Streets.\u00a0 It was a short walk to Michigan Avenue to watch the many parades each year.\u00a0The<em> <\/em><a href=\"https:\/\/chicago.suntimes.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><em>Chicago Sun Times<\/em><\/a> newspaper always took photos of us because we dressed in matching outfits and always sat on a curb with a great view of the festivities.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The caption was always the same: <strong>\u201cThe Schaudenecker Sisters.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>My parents always taught us to treat every one the same and we were never taught prejudice.\u00a0 My parents said <em>\u201cPrejudice was somebody else\u2019s leftover garbage and it stinks!\u201d <\/em>\u00a0Prejudice is something that\u2019s taught by others and it does not come naturally!\u00a0 My mom\u2019s friends called me, <em>\u201cMiss United Nations\u201d <\/em>because I brought home people from all over the world.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I loved so many of our relatives and my parents\u2019 friends because they were so kind to all of us.&nbsp; Most of them didn\u2019t have children themselves because they lived through the Great Depression and the Second World War but they had plenty of love to share.&nbsp; These people were a blessing and I think of them all the time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>My family grew up with the Donita family who lived near us on Rush Street.\u00a0 My brother married one of the Donita sisters and they have five daughters who still live in Chicago.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I am 84 now and still keep in touch with some of the girls I went to High School with and my most dearest friend is Claudia.\u00a0 She was very pretty and the Valedictorian of her class.\u00a0 Claudia and her 3 kids  came to California when they could and we\u2019d go to Laguna and it was glorious and so much fun. \u00a0I have such fond memories of High School and my sweet friends.\u00a0 My mother was right about the sadness of outliving friends.\u00a0Beautiful memories kick in and play and replay often.\u00a0 And all I can say is, <em>\u201cThank God for memories.\u201d\u00a0<\/em> They are the gift that keeps on giving.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-drop-cap\">I lost my husband sixteen years ago.\u00a0 He was my best friend and I still write him letters to this day.\u00a0 No one could be a patch on my husbands behind!\u00a0 I invite Sig into my dreams and sometimes he shows up.\u00a0 We raised five children who we love\/loved dearly. The big payoff came when our grandchildren and great-grandchildren were added to the family.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Now, I live in the first house we bought here in California and it\u2019s filled with so many memories.\u00a0 Our kids brought home their classmates plus stray cats and dogs. So, what do you do when you child brings home a stray dog or cat?\u00a0 You go buy dog or cat food!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>My husband and I hosted decades of dinner parties and poker games with the same people in each others&#8217; homes.\u00a0 We watched each other\u2019s children grow up, get married and have children. The Apodaca and Aguilar families were our favorites.
