A serious topic!! <\/em>Shush! Give it a try. You may learn something.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-drop-cap\">I had an interesting lunch with a Millennial last week. Not surprising that her values were diametrically opposed to mine. I also had lunch with a college professor who shared my same moral values even though he votes for a different political party. Finally, I had lunch with churchmates whose priorities were different from mine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In today\u2019s varying world views, can we be more patient with each other? We used to do that decades ago but what <em>happened<\/em>? I believe our <strong>certainty of being correct <\/strong>compounded with our <strong>pride to admit our mistakes<\/strong> <em>happened<\/em>. One player that feeds our opposing world views is the manipulative media. They know controversy builds a following and an increased viewership contributes to their million dollar revenue. Nasty click bait strategy, huh? Now that we are aware of this, perhaps we need to be reminded that we may be on the wrong side. <em>Shock!?!<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I stumbled into a very interesting video a few weeks back. This helped me during all three of my social conversations. This might help all of us handle difficult conversations better. This Pulitzer-winning author (<a href=\"https:\/\/charlesduhigg.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Charles Duhigg<\/a>) helped me understand that there are 3 different kinds of conversations:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Practical <\/strong>conversations \u2013 where the goal is to find a solution<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Emotional<\/strong> conversations \u2013 where the goal is to empathize<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Social<\/strong> conversations (the most difficult) \u2013 where the goal is acknowledgment \u2013 where you don\u2019t need to change each other\u2019s mind but to let the other guy know you understand where he\/she is coming from. In the end, you respect each other\u2019s differences.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/b1AEf83W2W8\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\" noreferrer noopener\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"360\" height=\"191\" src=\"https:\/\/travelingboy.com\/adventure\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/video-DifficultPeople.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-2387\" srcset=\"https:\/\/travelingboy.com\/adventure\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/video-DifficultPeople.jpg 360w, https:\/\/travelingboy.com\/adventure\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/video-DifficultPeople-300x159.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 360px) 100vw, 360px\" \/><\/a><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-drop-cap\">The next time you have a conversation, step back and identify what kind of conversation you are having, and work towards that goal. Even if the other person doesn\u2019t understand this, you can lead the conversation towards that mutual goal. Play it well, and you will remain connected as friends regardless of your differences.
