We welcome your questions and invite you to join in the conversation.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-large is-resized\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/travelingboy.com\/adventure\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/MrRobot-small.png\" alt=\"\" style=\"width:136px;height:auto\"\/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<h1 class=\"wp-block-heading has-luminous-vivid-orange-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-2\"><strong>What if the most dangerous thing about artificial intelligence isn&#8217;t that it can get things wrong, but that it can sound so convincing when it does?<\/strong><\/h1>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">That question emerged from a simple conversation with Mr. Robot.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I began by asking whether the Clinton Foundation still exists. The answer was straightforward. Then I asked whether Chelsea Clinton received $8 million for her wedding. Again, I received a confident answer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">But then I asked about something more controversial: <strong>Was Barack Obama&#8217;s birth certificate posted on the White House website a fake?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Mr. Robot gave me the conventional answer: no, Hawaii had authenticated the underlying record.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">But I wasn&#8217;t asking only what the authorities said. I pointed out something I had personally observed in the document: <strong>the PDF contained multiple digital layers.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"1024\" height=\"576\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/sC-S2XX9WAs\" title=\"Obama Birth Certificate Fraud  Sheriff Joe Arpaio\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Mr Robot initially explained the discrepancy away. When I challenged the reasoning, however, it acknowledged something important: the layers were real. What remained disputed was what those layers actually demonstrated.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">That distinction changed the conversation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"826\" src=\"https:\/\/travelingboy.com\/adventure\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/09\/Robot-Think-1024x826.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-5872\" srcset=\"https:\/\/travelingboy.com\/adventure\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/09\/Robot-Think-1024x826.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/travelingboy.com\/adventure\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/09\/Robot-Think-300x242.jpg 300w, https:\/\/travelingboy.com\/adventure\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/09\/Robot-Think-768x620.jpg 768w, https:\/\/travelingboy.com\/adventure\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/09\/Robot-Think-850x686.jpg 850w, https:\/\/travelingboy.com\/adventure\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/09\/Robot-Think.jpg 1248w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading has-luminous-vivid-orange-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-3\">The Problem Isn&#8217;t Always the Facts<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This is where the issue of bias becomes much more interesting.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">An AI can truthfully say, \u201cI base my answer on facts, evidence and science.\u201d But where do those facts come from? What sources are represented? Which sources receive greater weight? Which interpretations are considered credible? And what happens when the prevailing consensus is wrong?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">History gives us plenty of reasons to be cautious.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Imagine asking an intelligent machine centuries ago whether the Earth moves around the Sun. If that machine had access primarily to the prevailing authorities of its time, it might have concluded that Galileo was mistaken.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Or imagine asking it about evolution during Darwin&#8217;s era. The answer would have reflected the scientific and cultural understanding available at that particular moment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The lesson isn&#8217;t that experts are useless or that consensus is always wrong.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The lesson is more subtle:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Consensus is evidence. It is not proof.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"936\" height=\"527\" src=\"https:\/\/travelingboy.com\/adventure\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/09\/plents.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-5878\" srcset=\"https:\/\/travelingboy.com\/adventure\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/09\/plents.jpg 936w, https:\/\/travelingboy.com\/adventure\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/09\/plents-300x169.jpg 300w, https:\/\/travelingboy.com\/adventure\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/09\/plents-768x432.jpg 768w, https:\/\/travelingboy.com\/adventure\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/09\/plents-850x479.jpg 850w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 936px) 100vw, 936px\" \/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading has-luminous-vivid-orange-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-4\">Galileo Wasn&#8217;t Wrong Because He Was Outnumbered<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Scientific progress often begins with someone challenging an assumption that everyone else has become comfortable accepting.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">That doesn&#8217;t mean every dissenter is a Galileo. Most unconventional ideas are wrong. Conspiracy theories aren&#8217;t automatically true simply because they&#8217;re unpopular.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">But neither should an idea be dismissed merely because it conflicts with the prevailing narrative.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The real question should be:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>What does the evidence actually show?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And just as importantly:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>What evidence would prove us wrong?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Those two questions are surprisingly powerful.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading has-luminous-vivid-orange-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-5\">The Clinton Test<\/h3>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"alignright size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"216\" height=\"113\" src=\"https:\/\/travelingboy.com\/adventure\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/09\/Clinton.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-5875\"\/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The same principle applies to politics.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Consider Bill Clinton&#8217;s famous statement that he had experimented with marijuana but \u201cdidn&#8217;t inhale.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A careful examination separates what is known from what is merely claimed. Clinton admitted using marijuana. He later said that he had tried to inhale but couldn&#8217;t.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We can establish that he used marijuana because he said so himself. But whether he actually inhaled is something the public record cannot independently establish with certainty.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">That&#8217;s a small example, but it illustrates an important principle:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>A person&#8217;s statement is evidence. It isn&#8217;t automatically the truth simply because the person said it.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And that standard should apply equally to politicians we like and politicians we dislike.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"alignright size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"360\" height=\"203\" src=\"https:\/\/travelingboy.com\/adventure\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/09\/Trump-Meuller.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-5879\" srcset=\"https:\/\/travelingboy.com\/adventure\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/09\/Trump-Meuller.jpg 360w, https:\/\/travelingboy.com\/adventure\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/09\/Trump-Meuller-300x169.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 360px) 100vw, 360px\" \/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading has-luminous-vivid-orange-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-6\">The Same Standard Must Apply to Trump<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Russia controversy presents an even more complicated example.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Steele dossier contained serious allegations about Donald Trump and Russia. But saying that the dossier existed is not the same as saying that its allegations were proven.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">At the same time, rejecting the dossier doesn&#8217;t mean nothing happened. Russian interference in the 2016 election was established independently of the dossier, and there were documented contacts between people associated with the Trump campaign and Russian-linked individuals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Again, the responsible position isn&#8217;t necessarily the most politically convenient one.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It&#8217;s the one that distinguishes:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>What is established.<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>What is strongly supported.<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>What is disputed.<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>What is merely alleged.<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>And what is speculation.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"936\" height=\"509\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 936px) 100vw, 936px\" \/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading has-luminous-vivid-orange-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-7\">The AI Problem<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This is where artificial intelligence presents a unique challenge.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>An AI doesn&#8217;t have to be deliberately programmed to favor one political ideology to produce biased answers.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>It can inherit biases from its training material.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>It can reflect the assumptions of the institutions that produce information.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>It can learn that certain claims are commonly associated with \u201cmisinformation\u201d and become overly skeptical of them.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>It can give greater weight to sources that are considered authoritative while giving insufficient consideration to dissenting evidence.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>And perhaps most importantly, <strong>it can confuse consensus with truth.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The result is particularly dangerous because AI doesn&#8217;t usually sound uncertain.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It can produce a polished, articulate explanation that gives the impression that the matter is settled\u2014even when the underlying evidence is considerably more complicated.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"alignright size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"480\" height=\"507\" 284w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 480px) 100vw, 480px\" \/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading has-luminous-vivid-orange-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-8\">Don&#8217;t Replace One Authority With Another<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This doesn&#8217;t mean we should stop trusting science, journalists, historians, government records, universities or experts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It means we should stop treating any of them as infallible.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And that includes artificial intelligence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">An AI should be a <strong>research partner, not an oracle<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">When an answer matters, we should ask:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>What is the primary evidence?<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>What are the strongest arguments on the other side?<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Are the sources independent of one another?<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>What assumptions are being made?<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Is this fact, inference or speculation?<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>How confident should we actually be?<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>What evidence would change the conclusion?<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Those questions don&#8217;t guarantee that we&#8217;ll arrive at the truth.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">But they make it considerably harder to fool ourselves.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading has-luminous-vivid-orange-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-9\">The Most Important Question<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Perhaps the most revealing question isn&#8217;t:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>\u201cIs AI biased?\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Of course it can be.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The better question is:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>\u201cCan AI recognize when it might be wrong\u2014and will it tell us?\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And perhaps an even better question applies to all of us:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Are we willing to change our minds when the evidence demands it?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Because the danger isn&#8217;t simply that an AI might give us the wrong answer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The greater danger is that <strong>we might accept an answer simply because it sounds authoritative.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">History reminds us that the majority can be wrong.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Science reminds us that consensus can change.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Politics reminds us that people have incentives to tell us what they want us to believe.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"576\" height=\"385\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 576px) 100vw, 576px\" \/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And AI reminds us of something new:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>A machine can package all of those human assumptions into an answer that sounds remarkably certain.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">So don&#8217;t take AI&#8217;s word for it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Ask for the evidence. Examine the reasoning. Challenge the assumptions.
