One thing about Californians —- they love cars. In fact, Pixar Chief Creative Officer John Lasseter, grew up in Whittier California. His father was the Parts Manager of a Chevy dealership in Whittier. I can imagine John running around his Father’s workplace gawking at the automobiles that would roll in. Not surprising that he and his team created the movie “Cars.” Anyway, I went to this annual event at the Whittier Area Community Church and boy there were a lot of cars — well over a hundred beautiful classics. Another amazing thing? It’s FREE! Except for the food, this car show is absolutely free! You can also bring your own lunch but why would you? Most meals are under $10. It was open from 9am to 3pm. Free street parking. You might have to walk 2 blocks depending on how early you arrive.
Wanna buy a car? Some of these babies were for sale. And if you want to just talk shop, the proud owners will be there to give you the history of their prized possessions.
I think pictures tell a lot so here are some of the pictures I took. It was a perfect day to spend a Saturday in beautiful sunny California, USA.
Notice the 2 parachute bags at the back of the Batmobile?
Talk about gaudy gizmos! Notice the half steering wheel? Looks like a major safety hazard right there.
Do you know who drove this Aston Martin?
Hint: Someone who’s super cool.
This person fought underworld super criminals bent to take over the world.
The driver was on her Majesty’s Secret Service. Sticker price? About $300,000.
The name’s Bond …
James Bond. The movie was Spectre. This is the Aston Martin DBS.
I don’t know a whole lot about cars but even for a novice like me the collection was pretty incredible. Someone said there were maybe 400 of these amazing machines. Enjoy! And to think this is an annual event. There were bounce houses, food trucks, live country music. Hope to see you there next year. Bring the whole family.
