Aphorisms Contributed by Don of Kelowna, B.C.
APHORISM:
A SHORT, POINTED SENTENCE THAT EXPRESSES A WISE OR CLEVER OBSERVATION
OR A GENERAL TRUTH.
The
nicest thing about the future is ...
that it always starts tomorrow.
Money will buy
a fine dog ...
but only kindness will make him wag his tail.
If you don't
have a sense of humor ...
you probably don't have any sense at all.

Seat belts are
not as confining ...
as wheelchairs.
A good time
to keep your mouth shut is ...
when you're in deep water.

How come it takes
so little time for a child who is afraid of the dark ...
to become a teenager who wants to stay out all night?
Business conventions
are important ...
because they demonstrate how many people a company can operate without.
 |
Why is it that
at class reunions ...
you feel younger than everyone else looks?
Scratch a cat
(or dog) ...
and you will have a permanent job.
No one has more
driving ambition than the teenage boy (or girl) ...
who wants to buy a car.

There are no
new sins ...
the old ones just get more publicity.
There are worse
things than getting a call for a wrong number at 4 a.m. ...
like, it could be the right number.

Do you realize that
in about 40 years ...
we'll have thousands of old ladies running around with tattoos?
(And rap music will be the Golden Oldies!)
Money can't buy happiness
...
but somehow it's more comfortable to cry in a Cadillac than in a Yugo.
After 60, if you don't
wake up aching in every joint ...
you're probably dead.
Be careful about
reading the fine print ...
there's no way you're going to like it.
The trouble
with bucket seats is that ...
not everybody has the same size bucket.

No one ever
says
"It's only a game" ...
when their team is winning.
I've reached
the age where ...
'happy hour' is a nap.

Always be yourself
because the people who matter don't mind ...
and the ones who mind don't matter.
Life isn't tied
with a bow ...
but it's still a gift.

Hungry Contributed by JB of Virgina (sent a year ago)
I tried to make
a dish today.
The ingredients same and prepared the same way.
A cup of this, three cups of that,
a pinch from here, a tablespoon of fat.
transfer to another pot, turn the rings
put the veggies and those things.
exactly what she used to do
nothing extra, nothing new |
 |
boil then simmer, slowly
stir
transfer to pan and let cool there
wait an hour, then reheat
let it cool, then add the beet
exactly what
she had done,
followed directions exactly, every one
why does it not taste the same, the food
why does it taste too sweet, too spicy. no good
after i think of all that i have done
i finally figured what was missing, the only one
she put something in that dish, none of the above
she put something in it, i think it's love. |

Some people can't stand Barbara Streisand because
of her liberal politics but that shouldn't prevent anyone from appreciating
her wonderful voice. In this video a little girl sings a duet with
the famous diva. Don't worry, you conservatives! I'll give equal
time with the final video in this email.

While waiting in line for the American Idol audition,
the contestants suddenly burst into song ... a worship song! Who

I don't watch the show so I was surprised they actually

A fascinating story about an old fashioined but extremely
effective advertising concept. Being in the marketing business,
I thought this was a brilliant pre-social media marketing campaign.

Mike is a professional photographer ... some of his
work graced the billboards of Times Square, New York ... so when
he sends me photos he likes, you know they have to be good. This
is not a video but a website --- a collection of intriguing wildlife
photos. If you have time to spare this can eat up your minutes.

Some people are so politically polarizing. Ronald
Reagan is one of them --- you either hate him or love him. Whichever
political side you land, you have to admire his guts for sharing
his faith.

a good TGI Friday people! Happy Easter!

God Whispers
Dear Raoul,
Thank you. I found this issue so inspiring and engrossing. First of all, your blog of course, and the fact that it mentioned your brother gave it more personal pathos.
Then when I went to inspirational, "God Whispers" it spoke to me. You see, it is a quiet Good Friday , just my husband and I cruising the TV. I found myself uninspired. Then I opened my mail and there it was, TGIF with the topic for me. I have seen this before in one of my emails, but it was just plain words and no picture and music. Put together, it was so beautiful. So apt for Easter. So here you are again --- your TGIF reaching out to countless readers. God whispers indeed, and we find time to listen. God is good.

Reading at Church
Great idea and selection. I am reading the Passion according to John this evening at Church. Joy will certainly be expressed around the world at the Resurrection on Easter Sunday. Thanks.

I am glad you wrote about your brother. I know he left a huge footprint on your heart and of course your parents as well. Take care and please know that you’re one of my favorite friends. You have depth and real caring for those around you. You are a gift to all you come in contact with. Happy Friday.

American Idol
"Shout To the Lord!" It was very moving as I recalled -- and must have been a real witness to those contestants who were not Christians!
The idea was actually dreamed up by contestant Jason Castro (with the long brown dreadlocks in the video), who is actually a strong Christian. One of the other contestants I know for sure was Christian; two were Mormons and I'm not sure about the other 4....
I'm not allowed to open video links at work, so I'm not sure if the video that was posted on TGIF was the one where they sang "My Shepherd, My Savior...." for Idol Gives Back, or "My Jesus, My Savior...." (dressed in all white) the following day. Both versions are quite moving! :)
Thanks for sharing! God bless you.
TGIGF (Thank God It's Good Friday - because Sunday's coming!)
