You touched a chord in my past. When Charissa was in pre-school (late ’70s), I noticed her playing exclusively with a black girl. One day she came home and told us she has a best friend in school. I immediately asked is she the black girl? And she said “The what?” The one with the dark skin I said. And she said “I don’t know, I didn’t notice.” Later on I kicked myself for even asking. I realized then that it is us the adult that plants seeds of discrimination to the innocent minds of children.
