Dear, dear Raoul,

This week’s “Aging With Grace” reminded me of my new favorite song, the song my wife Beth and I will certainly play in not too many more years at our 50th wedding anniversary (God willing!) – although she says it’s a great song for this year, too. Originally by the Zombies, this far superior cover is by a now-gone British band, The Beautiful South.

About 20 years ago a friend brought a friend to one of my luncheons. She had grown up in the barrio in East LA I just fell in love with her she had got past the place where she drove but her stories about East LA encouraged me to ask her if I could pick her up at 7:00 in the morning on a Sunday and take her to her old neighborhood which she jumped at! Way to East LA and the way back and a couple of years after that and hearing her stories I kept telling her you should write a book, and she did! It’s called; “I never ate a banana split.” You can get it on Amazon.
She was such an alive and vital person and when she recounted her memories it was just like I was there with her. I also grew up in the ghetto myself in Chicago so I certainly could relate. Over and out for now. Heather

They say Age has its prerogatives. So, they say. I may have told you that I enjoyed the company of older people when I was young. Similar energy, I think. It is one of the reasons I know so much about silent films and stars of the 1920’s. Clara Bow “The It Girl”. Theda Bara “The Vamp”. Most of the people I spoke with were born in 1894. Old man.

Finally, you spoke about writing a book. I have to start that process.
