(The winners are listed below.)<\/p>\n<p>Over <strong>23,000<\/strong> people attended the eight-day festival, which kicked off with a fabulous opening night gala where cameras snapped, wine flowed, and invited guests feasted on foods beautifully presented by an array of <strong>French <\/strong>chefs.\u00a0 This annual cinematic journey through the works of famous and emerging directors, is a collaborative effort between the <strong>Franco-American Cultural Fund, the Directors Guild of America,<\/strong> <strong>Motion Picture Association of America, Writers Guild of America West,<\/strong> <strong>France\u2019s Society of Authors, Composers and Publishers of Music, <\/strong><strong>Directors<\/strong> and <strong>Producers (L\u2019ARP,)<\/strong> the <strong>Film and Television Office of the French<\/strong> <strong>Embassy <\/strong>in <strong>Los Angeles, the CNC, TV<\/strong> <strong>France International<\/strong>, and <strong>Unifrance.<\/strong><\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_6461\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-6461\" style=\"width: 850px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-6461\" src=\"https:\/\/travelingboy.com\/travel\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/05\/Promise-of-Dawn-1.jpg\" alt=\"Promise of Dawn (La Promesse de L'Aube) movie poster\" width=\"850\" height=\"1154\" srcset=\"https:\/\/travelingboy.com\/travel\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/05\/Promise-of-Dawn-1.jpg 850w, https:\/\/travelingboy.com\/travel\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/05\/Promise-of-Dawn-1-600x815.jpg 600w, https:\/\/travelingboy.com\/travel\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/05\/Promise-of-Dawn-1-221x300.jpg 221w, https:\/\/travelingboy.com\/travel\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/05\/Promise-of-Dawn-1-768x1043.jpg 768w, https:\/\/travelingboy.com\/travel\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/05\/Promise-of-Dawn-1-754x1024.jpg 754w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 850px) 100vw, 850px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-6461\" class=\"wp-caption-text\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">Charlotte Gainsbourg (Nina Kacew) and Pierre Niney (Romain Gary) star in Promise at Dawn, a biopic directed and co-written by Eric Barbier with Marie Eynard, based on the life of French novelist and diplomat Romain Gary who against all odds, achieved the improbable goals set of him by his unrelenting, domineering mother.<\/span> Courtesy Photo<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The memorable opening night film was <strong><em>Promise at Dawn (La promesse de l\u2019aube,)<\/em><\/strong> which is based on the life of <strong>French<\/strong> novelist and diplomat <strong>Romain Gary<\/strong>.\u00a0 The film, starring <strong>Charlotte Gainsbourg <\/strong>and <strong>Pierre Niney,<\/strong> each of whom give outstanding performances as mother and son, was adapted by <strong>\u00c9ric<\/strong> <strong>Barbier<\/strong> and <strong>Marie Eynard <\/strong>from <strong>Gary\u2019s <\/strong>book, and is brilliantly directed by <strong>Barbier<\/strong>.\u00a0 The story takes us through the life and times of a man who grew up with his unrelenting <strong>Russian-Jewish<\/strong> mother in the <strong>1920s<\/strong>.\u00a0 She filled him with seemingly impossible expectations and reminded him almost every day of her grandiose ambitions for him and even when he\u2019s lying wounded in a military hospital bed, she instructs him to keep writing his book.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_6456\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-6456\" style=\"width: 850px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-6456\" src=\"https:\/\/travelingboy.com\/travel\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/05\/Naked-Normandy.jpg\" alt=\"scene from Naked Normandy\" width=\"850\" height=\"509\" srcset=\"https:\/\/travelingboy.com\/travel\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/05\/Naked-Normandy.jpg 850w, https:\/\/travelingboy.com\/travel\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/05\/Naked-Normandy-600x359.jpg 600w, https:\/\/travelingboy.com\/travel\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/05\/Naked-Normandy-300x180.jpg 300w, https:\/\/travelingboy.com\/travel\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/05\/Naked-Normandy-768x460.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 850px) 100vw, 850px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-6456\" class=\"wp-caption-text\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">Naked Normandy, skillfully directed by Philippe Le Guay, features Intouchables star Fran\u00e7ois Cluzet as the mayor of a small town that has fallen on hard economic times.
