In reply to Raoul. I talked to a soldier who was part of the team that dismantled the firearms in Afghanistan and he said they removed all the essential parts of the equipment. But he did admit they left tons and tons of expensive steel. It was cheaper for the US to leave them there than carry them back.

Thanks for this clarification. It makes me feel better.

However, if you read the explanation carefully, it said NO to $80 billion left but it hinted that there was still a hefty amount of gear still left behind (could be a few billion still). Even if they had shells of equipment, those are still valuable. The metal is valuable enough to repurpose for other stuff. China and Russia or N Korea would probably want to get their hands on some of them and do reverse technology studies on them.

But, I’m glad they aren’t as deadly as I feared. I hope they are telling the truth.
