Seen Any UFOs Lately?

Ever since I started studying AI, my research has veered me to the direction of UFOs. I believe they exist. Okay, you can move on to the joke section now. Raoul’s out of his mind. Go ahead. Just go. Go, go go!

Still here? Curious? Let me expound on this. Many former Top Secret evidence is finally released to the public and old ones are given their stamp of authenticity. Here are some observations and questions. See if you agree with me.

• Censorship and fake news has been going on for years. Our past Presidents must have known about it but (love him or hate him) it was Trump who made the official announcement. ie. Authorities decided long ago to filter out what the public can or cannot know. Why the secrecy? To prevent a panic? To let our enemies think we have the technology? Because we will lose hope? (I think they know who really killed JFK, Martin Luther King Jr. and Bobby Kennedy. I think they’re still trying to protect some people.) I think we should be open to new ideas about ETs while still questioning and using our common sense. After all, the truth should set us free.
• Aliens have lived among us for decades, maybe centuries, maybe since forever. They must value humankind because, even with their advanced technology, they haven’t eliminated us yet. Are they here to protect us from ourselves? Are we a big experiment? Are they as curious of us as we are of them?
• Are they confined to time? Do they function within our 24 hour time frame? Does time also move forward for them? Can they slow it down? I see no solid evidence of time travel.
• It’s possible there are different races/species of them because there have been different recorded UFO shapes and sizes. They must be getting along fine because there has not been any record of them battling it out in the open … unless of course their battles are in a different dimension. I believe the latter.
• We can create rules and hierarchical systems for human society but these rules do not apply to them. Even the power-hungry world leaders and billionaires are subservient to them. Hey, you one percenters! You may choose to ignore they exist and you may be the boss of me but you ain’t the boss of them!
• Why do they still need to ride a vehicle to move about (and apparently they come in different sizes and models)? Can’t they call Scottie to teleport them? Our understanding of physics is primitive compared to theirs but they are still confined to the physics that God established in the universe.
• I wouldn’t be surprised if these aliens can control the weather. China, you can fly as many balloons as you want but you’ll never come close to their technology.
• They make mistakes too. They aren’t perfect. There have been crash sightings other than in the famous Roswell and Aurora.
• They may not be from outer space but from hidden earth. Notice how they appear often in less populated areas like deserts, frozen terrain and ocean deeps? Do they live in houses? After a long day, do the alien husbands hang their space helmets and announce “Honey, I’m home!”

Oh, the many things to speculate about these mysterious strangers.

CHALLENGED FAITH

How does this realization of technologically advanced other-worldly creatures affect my faith? Let’s start with the big question: Is God an alien? No. God created something when there was nothing … not even aliens. Aliens are part of His creation. Does the existence of aliens contradict the validity of the Bible? Of course not! Nothing in the Bible says they do not exist. On the contrary, in the 1st Chapter of Ezekiel, the prophet describes something that can very well be a UFO. Even the star that the wise men followed could have been a UFO.

Could they be angels or demons? Yup! I believe so. Regardless who they are, God is above all of this. He is in control of them just as He is in control of us.

Humans have always worshiped unexplainable, unattainable beings and even inanimate objects … yup! weirdos still worship quirky toasted bread for goodness sake! Even Biblical characters like Mary and John have tried to worship angels and they were told not to because they too were just created beings … they weren’t god. (How can you tell the good angel from the bad angel/demon? The demon asks you to worship him.)

Just because we don’t understand doesn’t make them gods so let’s not return to the practice of human sacrifices to appease these guys — it’s a waste of life and I doubt they crave human meat anyway. Remember: The blood sacrifice you save today may be the Elon Musk of tomorrow!

CONCLUSION

I have been concerned about the evil that has engulfed the world today. Corruption, idiotic lies, perversion and insane judicial proceedings. I was fearful of China’s dominance in the world and the weak free nations bowing to its whims. But the recent floods that swept whole towns incapacitating China slapped me into the reality that, clever though they may be, China is no match to nature. God gave Ezekiel that angelic vision to remind him that the Babylonian kingdom was powerless against the creator of the universe. To me, these UFOs are a reminder not to lose hope because these powerful evil men are mere pawns in God’s overall plan.

The bottom line is we are not alone. Death still has its consequences. The unfulfilled prophecies in Revelation are still on schedule. What do you think? I think it’s time for the jokes now.

Procrasti-Nation

We went to the beach last Sunday (you can read about it here in TravelingBoy.com). You’d think that I would take in that ocean air more often considering the Pacific Ocean is less than 20 miles away from me; but no. I always think I would do it next week and next week never comes. Similarly, I regret I didn’t visit the Smithsonian Museums more often when I lived near Washington, DC. Yup! I admit it. I’m part of the Procrasti-Nation. If you’re honest, you’re part of it too.

We Southern Californians procrastinate going to nearby places which global tourists visit in droves. And we return the favor and visit their touristy spots which they (the locals) rarely visit. Explain that to a visiting alien from space.

I wondered if there’s a term for this. Couldn’t think of any and so I asked AI to write a song about this. I was impressed. So let’s all rise and sing our AI-inspired Procrasti-National Anthem:

Welcome to the land of procrasti-nation,
Where tasks disappear without hesitation.
I’ll get to it later, I swear I will,

But more than procrastinating on work and chores, I think the things I procrastinate and feel guilty about the most are:

• Spiritual health: Not meditating on scripture as much as I should.
• Physical health: Not exercising. Not eating healthy.
• Other Stuff: Not learning more computer skills to catch up. Not painting or creating art as much as I could. Not learning to play the piano. Not reading more. Not converting my VHS family tapes into digital format.

During my Dad’s last days here on earth I wish I had told him I loved him more. I didn’t expect him to lose his cognitive abilities so quickly. So I’ll add one more item to my list:

• Not saying “I love you” more often.

The big news nowadays is Elon Musk’s purchase of Twitter. The gregarious billionaire claimed he needed to do it to advance freedom of speech which he believes has been suppressed by big media for years. He encourages a free discourse among people from all sectors of the political landscape including people who disagree with him. Sounds fair, doesn’t it? That should be a good thing, right? So why are there so many upset beyond words? What’s really going on here?

NICODEMUS
Nicodemus was a Pharisee who had been witnessing the many miracles of Jesus. Under the cover of night he visits Jesus to question him about teachings that did not jive with his world view. That was very mature of Nicodemus — to be open to the possibility that his beliefs were faulty. Technically, this passage describes Jesus as the light in a world of darkness but there seems to be a parallel application with TRUTH in a world of lies. 

“… Light has come into the world, but people loved darkness instead of light because their deeds were evil.  Everyone who does evil hates the light, and will not come into the light for fear that their deeds will be exposed.” — John 3:19-20

WHO ARE YOU?
Where you stand with this issue about Twitter reveals a lot about you. If you think it isn’t fair for everyone to share their opinion, then you don’t really believe in fairness and equality. If you disrupt speeches or prevent further discussions just because you don’t agree with the direction of the conversation, then you’re not very mature are you? Are you afraid of the truth?

Scripture doesn’t say that Nicodemus changed his mind that fateful evening. Eventually however, I believe he was mature enough to move over to “the other side.” in Chapter 7:50 we see the egotistical Pharisees cursing Jesus because His teachings did not carry their seal of approval. Then in comes old Nick to the rescue who defends Jesus. Ata boy Nick!  Then in John 19:39 we see Nick again. This time he is helping the women prepare Jesus’ broken body for burial. In both instances this Pharisee was showing his allegiance to Jesus in broad daylight. What a beautiful progression from dark to light.

HOPE
I hope Elon Musk indeed opens the floodgate of free ideas … good or bad. I hope we all have meaningful discussions. I hope the great divide between political parties start to narrow and begin to heal our country. I hope we learn to give grace to each other’s opinion. I hope for TRUTH and common sense to be obvious in the light of day for only then will truth set us free.

But this is just me.

Out of This World

News flash! Aliens are real!

Yup!  Those nerds wearing aluminum foil hats have finally been vindicated. The presence of the elephant in the room of the US Defense Department has been officially recognized.  If you are not convinced that UFOs are real, you’re way behind in the news. This is one news story that all the media outlets seem to agree on. 60 Minutes had an interview with a pilot who claimed UFO sightings was an everyday occurrence for a year. That pilot is just one among many. And this has been going on for years. This is a pretty wild admission of the limitation of 21st century science.

Garie, a good friend of mine who heads a satelite operation in the Philippines told me that they get messages from the US military surveillance all the time. “I’m really impressed. If anything is going on in the earth atmosphere, they know about it. They tell when there are near misses like ICBMs (Intercontinental Balastic Missiles) or falling space debris.”  They know if something originates from Russia or China. So if the US Department of Defense say they do not know who these guys are … that doesn’t seem comforting at all.

Men in Black, here we come. We don’t know who you are, why you exist or why you expose yourself — I mean, what happened to your “cloak of invisibility?” Did you run out of “invisibility batteries?” Are you having fun at our expense? We know your technology can cause unimaginable destruction if you wanted to so we think you’re here to observe … at least for now. (Boy, I’d love to see your “selfies.” ) You can defy gravity and other physical laws. Why do you need to ride a vehicle in different models? — disk, round, triangular, silvery, greenish, quiet, loud, big, small, etc. there are many of you. Is one for cruising to pick up chicks — literally — as in “beam me up Scotty?” We’re even open to the possibility that you walk among us. (Spielberg, Elon … are you one of them? Well, for Zuckerberg … we’ve always known he is one of them.) Sometimes I look in our dog’s eyes and wonder if he is one of you.

What implications does the existence of UFOs have on Christianity? Could Jesus have been a UFO? Does God (a supreme being) really exist? If He does, is He the same God of Abraham? Is time travel possible? There’s a smorgasbord of uncomfortable possibilities. The rules of the game of life have suddenly changed. The rule book I followed didn’t say that our worlds would collide like this.

A quick internet research tells me that very few people in the church have dared speak about this authoritatively. (You can’t blame them for their ignorance.) But just because we can’t explain it … just because they are not explicitly mentioned in the Bible … it doesn’t mean it isn’t real. Most scholars believe that they are spiritual beings. And scripture tells us there is an ongoing spiritual battle. If you never believed in angels and demons, now is a good time to start.

So where should the Christian faith stand in all of this?  One of the more sensitive contemporary Christian songwriters, Sara Groves, shares my sentiments with her song “What do I know?” In her attempt to console an old widow whose husband had just passed away, Sara is at a loss for words because she has no answers for the woman’s misfortune. But what she does know is enough to strengthen her faith:

And, I don’t know of bright lights at the ends of tunnels,
Or any of those things.

But I know to be absent from this body is to be present with the Lord,
and from what I know of him, that must be pretty good.

Tonka the Mighty Dog

When our corgi, Tonka, was a puppy, he was an excitable gnawing machine. He’d chew on the legs of the chairs, the walls, my slippers… but most of all he would strangle the necks of our 3 cats just to show them who was boss. This week I was pleasantly surprised to find all 3 cats lying in “Tonka” territory and King Tonka relaxing with them. Tonka has finally matured. They finally get along.

Wouldn’t it be nice if America matured? Instead of reacting to every news item, and stressing everyone out, can we just watch and observe? Don’t be a sucker to the news media’s little game.

Three weeks after the stormy US election day and still no official winner has been declared. Cries of foul play reverberate among the Republicans. The Democrats proceed as if they already won. Sure there are rants from both sides but I do notice “a relative” calm. Why? Campaigning is over. Convincing is over. We’re just waiting for the dust to settle. The political boxing match has transformed into the quiet excitement of a grand master chess tournament. I know we all can get passionate about our politics but no matter who wins, one thing is certain: America is truly divided; It means there are just as many people on the other side of your politics.

Be safe, be healthy, and remember: maturity isn’t based on years but based on experience. TGIF people!

Home Creatures

Something went wrong with the program that launches my TGIF email. I couldn’t finish my email for this week, the way I want to. Sorry if you were hoping for some profound thoughts or interesting story but I’ve run out of time.  I’ll just share a short story about the creatures in my home.

I’ve moved my office to the living room because our dog, Tonka, was feeling lonely. At first I didn’t know why he was howling like a wolf until I realized he only howled when my wife would leave for work. I figured that Tonka was actually mourning — mourning every morning (groan!) because I used to lock myself in my cave during office hours and Tonka would be left alone until my wife’s return at the end of the day. The 3 cats somehow weren’t enough to keep her happy. So here I am finishing my TGIF email in the living room to keep Tonka company. Still getting used to the dog licking my legs and the 3 cats parading in front of my computer — teasing me to pet them.

When our Shitzu passed away I was so heartbroken and I said I didn’t want any more pets. But my wife and daughter had other ideas. I resisted but it was futile. Now I’m surrounded by 4 furry animals everyday. It’s not fair!  I don’t feed them, I don’t do any of the heavy lifting… I just give them a massage. Sigh!

Be safe, be healthy, and remember: God created pets to be loved even by pet haters like me. TGIF people!

Angry America

(I’m in a spiritual mood so please skip if you aren’t into these kinds of things.)

Like most of you, I have been troubled by the murder of an unarmed man and the anarchy that followed in the streets across America. Hard to believe that there is so much evil in the hearts of men: The systemic abuse of power exemplified in broad daylight and goons paid to create havoc. These shameless animals on both sides of the fence! Above it all I saw an evil puppeteer pulling the strings …. pressing all the sensitive buttons. Everybody shouting. Nobody listening. Shattered glasses. Stolen merchandise. Teargas. Bullets. Anger. Pain. Fear.

Last night I wanted to pray but I didn’t know how. I grabbed my Bible and I was led to Romans 8:21:

“For we do not know what we should pray for as we ought, but the Spirit Himself makes intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered.“

These words were written as if today, but actually written by the apostle Paul in the first century amidst the tribulations of his time. Paul reminded me that prayer sometimes cannot be spoken in logical coherent words but in (what is called) “praying in the spirit” (Praying in the Spirit is prayer with divine help. It’s trusting in faith and relying on God to hear, understand, and act. Praying in the Spirit is a gift to be received through faith in Jesus.)

So I closed my eyes, allowed myself to just make utterances … no words … just groanings of sadness … and allowed the Spirit to take over. No. It wasn’t speaking in tongues (no language was invoked). It was ecstatic prayer. And you know what? It felt good …real good. A burden was lifted. In its place was a reminder that “all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose.” — Romans 8:28

No definitive answers but a clear acceptance of what God is allowing to happen. Imagine that! God scolded Israel (His beloved chosen people) when he declared:

“All day long I have stretched out My hands to a disobedient and contrary people.” — Romans 10:21

God has been stretching out His hands, bending backwards patiently to an America that has been going in the wrong direction for so long. The events of today were/are inevitable. (When you go to the edge of a cliff, don’t blame anyone if you fall off). We may not like it but be at peace that this is part of God’s plan to bring the nation back to Him or to force it to its knees.

“I have said these things to you, that in me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation. But take heart; I have overcome the world.”  — John 16:33

I’m sorry for the heavy stuff. (Hey, I told you to skip this.) Of course, this is just me.

Sunny Skies, Sleep, and the Morning

I must have eaten a pound of sugar last night because I couldn’t sleep. My mind was in overdrive. I tossed and turned, tapped my fingers to the beat of a clock, took deep breaths, read until my eyes got heavy, watched a boring show — nothing. So getting up early for a morning meeting was weird — wide awake and tired already. To add to the strange awakening, the morning clouds prevented the bright sunlight from filtering through. It even drizzled a little. A drizzle in a heat wave! How weird is that? There was a battle between rain and sun because at 9 AM, the golden rays had yet to emerge. However, by noon, solar power proved to be the victor. And there above the heavens our star boasted it’s majesty for most of the day.

The heat here in California is affecting my concentration. I feel like a prize fighter waiting for the final bell to end a match that has dragged far too long.  Stamina! Stamina! I need to hold on till the end of the day.

I wish I could leave you with something profound but there’s nothing up in the attic of my brain but a pile of melted scattered ideas.

Of course I’m exaggerating.  And life’s still good.  But I certainly wish your day is better than mine. If not, as a consolation, I hope at least my collection of jokes this week will snap you out of your doldrums … even for just a moment.

Two personal friends of mine, R & O,  ran for office at the primary elections held this week here in California. They both had very limited funding but they still decided to run because they believed they could make a difference.

Their competitors had oodles of money and had TV ads, direct mail ads, radio and social media ads. What chance did my friends have?

I cringed every time I watched those expensive  TV ads portraying their political rivals as the saintly answer to all our problems. “Vote for Mr. Slick because he understands and cares for YOU. His impeccable record shows he shares your same value. Look at these organizations that support him, blah blah, blah …” — that was basically the message of all their ads. Of course if you weren’t familiar with the issues you’d vote for this well-packaged political Messiah. So, next time, how would one choose the best candidate for the job when one doesn’t have the time to do the research? I would ask someone knowledgeable and whose values I trust.

Allow me to provide my 5 shortcut bullet points of Voting Discernment. See if you agree with me.

1. The bigger the marketing budget, the bigger the lie. It takes more money to bury a scandal.
2. The more endorsement the candidate has from shady organizations, the shadier the candidate. The more favors he has to repay.
3. The more the candidate asks you to vote by party lines, the less intelligent they think you are.
4. The more desperate the candidate, the greater his lengths to cheat, lie, steal and even kill for the win.
5. The humbler the candidate, the more he will listen.

Some people exasperated me because they wouldn’t even vote. I asked some of my associates to vote for R & O, but they weren’t interested. They claimed they weren’t familiar with the issues or they didn’t think my guys were good enough (even though they couldn’t defend the other choices — as if only perfection would deserve their precious vote). Here were R & O,  who stepped out of their comfort zone, risked public ridicule and sacrificed time and money and yet my snotty associates wouldn’t even throw an appreciative vote. If the government does poorly, these apathetic souls would have no right to complain. And if the government does well, they would have contributed nothing.

BTW, O DID NOT WIN but I was proud of him because he came in 3rd out of 5 competitors … losing only by a size of a church. R DID WIN and is headed for the mid-term elections in November. Think about my 5 bullet points as you observe the coming ads. I hope to see you at the polls. I don’t care who you choose as long as you cast an educated vote.
