Perfect Marriage

NIGERIA BEGINS

I am writing you from my small hotel in Nigeria. Yup! All the documents came through eventually and I am now safe and sound. I'm part of a team that will teach college kids about entrepreneurship and marketing. Please pray for me. I'm here to share my gifts and my love for my fellowman. I won't spend too much time on this message because it's already past midnight. Except for a few short catnaps, I've been up for almost 24 hours.

As the plane was landing around 4pm, I noticed that there was a white haze. I wondered why it was really foggy in the afternoon. As we left the air conditioned plane the humidity kicked in and I realized it wasn't haze but industrial strength smog. You can't see past a few hundred feet. I was a standout because of my height, the color of my skin and the slant of my eyes. But people were polite and they all spoke English with their thick accent. I had to wait 5 hours for 2 friends to arrive from separate flights so I stayed inside the airport.

With nothing to do (no internet, no cell phone) I whiped out my sketch book and asked the waitress in the kiosk if I could draw her. She was taken aback by my unusual request but she eventually gave in. She had a vertical scar on her face which I omitted thinking she wouldn't like that. But an elderly gentleman whispered to me that it was very important. He said that face scars identify their tribes. She was pleasantly surprised and showed off her caricature. We took pictures ... and then the line started. After all the waitresses, there were 2 tables waiting for me. Everyone wanted one.

Luckily my friends arrived and put a stop to the little "frenzy" I created. I made lots of friends there. They told me to come back. And so my African journey of goodwill begins.

If life is a waste of time, and time is a waste of life, then let's all get wasted together and have the time of our lives!

Marriage
Contributed by Dette of Mindanao, Philippines

There is a story told about two old friends who were catching up: One friend asked: “How is it that you haven’t yet married?”

“To be honest,” the second began, “I have spent years looking for the perfect woman. I met a very beautiful and highly intelligent woman and, for a brief time, I thought I had found the perfect woman. But soon I discovered that she was terribly self-centered ...

Then, I met a woman who was outgoing and generous, but soon I discovered that she was a spendthrift. I had just about given up on meeting the perfect woman until, one day, I met her. Beautiful, intelligent, kind, generous, a wonderful sense of humor. She was the perfect woman.”

“So why didn’t you marry her?” his friend asked. Looking down at his glass, he replied, “Because she was looking for the perfect man.”

Shoe Tie

It's a humid 95 degress here in Nigeria. Are you like me? Have you noticed that summer lingered around a little longer than it should have? For you naysayers, is this damning proof that Global Warming is real? It's a website not a video.

How Great THou Art

I have still to explore this majestic land of Africa but just seeing the city teeming with life tells me that in all of this, God is present. I thought I saw this video before but I was pleasantly surprised by this version. Hope you like it.

TGIF people!
