BIG DREAMS

Are you part of a non-profit organization? I don't mean working for one but volunteering for one. Do you do things only if you get paid for it? Are you constantly expanding your influence or are you happy with just a select circle? How big is your dream?

Today I was part of a group of entrepreneurs who started a dialogue with some department heads of the business section of the Pasadena Community College. Our ultimate objective is to create jobs.

For years I volunteered with organizations that help the unemployed. In those years I realized an endemic problem---these well meaning organizations have been training people to become more presentable to potential employers but that exercise didn't change the number of job openings --- a thousand people were still vying for that single job. So in the succeeding years I've been looking for like-minded entrepreneur makers.

Through a series of events I found my way into this amazing group. One of our members has recently returned from Africa where he taught thousands of people how to start a business.
When I was a boy I would climb mango trees and gather the ripened fruits. One day I noticed a volleyball made out of the mango leaves and I realized it was home to a weaver ant colony.

Curiousity made me poke it but suddenly the protective ants started swarning up my arms and my legs. The attack was so swift I thought I was going to be eaten alive. I was forced to jump on a pile of leaves 10 feet below narrowingly avoiding the branches. My human size was no match for the collective strength of the little army.

How big is your dream? If your dream is limited to the power of YOU perhaps itisn't big enough.

" Our bodies have many parts, but the many parts make up only one body when they are all put together."
---1 Corinthians 12:12

Italian Mother
sent by Tom of Pasadena, CA

Giuseppe excitedly tells his mother he's fallen in love and that he is going to get married.

He says, "Just for fun, Mama, I'm going to bring over three women and you try and guess which one I'm going to marry." The mother agrees.

The next day, he brings three beautiful women into the house, sits them down on the couch & they chat for a while. He then says, "Okay, Mama, guess which one I'm going to marry?"

Mama says immediately, "The one on the right."

"That's amazing, Mama. You're right. How did you know?"

Mama replies: "I don't like her!"

Jewish Mother
sent by Tom of Pasadena, CA

The year is 2016 and the United States has elected the first woman as well as the first Jewish president, Susan Goldfarb.

She calls up her mother a few weeks after Election Day and says, "So, Mom, I assume you'll be coming to my inauguration?"

"I don't think so. It's a ten hour drive, your father isn't as young as he used to be, and my arthritis is acting up again."

"Don't worry about it Mom, I'll send Air Force One to pick you up and take you home. And a limousine will pick you up at your door."

"I don't know. Everybody will be so fancy-schmantzy, what on earth would I wear?"

Susan replies, "I'll make sure you have a wonderful gown custom-made by the best designer in New York."

"Honey," Mom complains, "you know I can't eat those rich foods you and your friends like to eat."

The President-to-be responds, "Don't worry Mom. The entire affair is going to be handled by the best caterer in New York, kosher all the way. Mom, I really want you to come."

So Mom reluctantly agrees and on January 20, 2017, Susan Goldfarb is being sworn in as President of the United States. In the front row sits the new President's mother, who leans over to a senator sitting next to her and says,
"You see that woman over there with her hand on the Bible,
becoming President of the United States?"

The Senator whispers back, "Yes I do."

Mom says proudly, "Her brother is a doctor!"

A clever trick. Now why didn't I think of that? If I ran a breakfast diner, I'd make something like this.

Bowling with SpongeBob

Not a video game fan? Well, try this out for size. I played it a couple of times but never got a perfect score. Literally had to pull my way out of it. It could get addicting.

We end this edition with one of my favorite tunes --- the Charlie Brown theme music. These two musicians do their own lively interpretation for some senior citizens and you can see it erupts into a party. What a treat!
TGIF people! Enjoy your first weekend of October!

Comments

Hi Bro,

The Italian Mother and The Filipino Way are my two favorites, but I guess [being Italian and married to a Filipina] I am a little biased.

Thank you and have a good weekend!

Rick
