Another Year

TGIF FOR 2015

Got a call from one of my readers. He asked me how I come up with all of these jokes and videos every single week. I told him the truth – it comes from people like you! Honestly, if it wasn't for your contributions this email blast would stop. And if you think the jokes aren't that great, that's because I have to work with the materials you give me. (Hint, hint: send my your best jokes ... the newer the better).

Inspired by the likes of "Peanuts," "The Far Side," and "Calvin and Hobbes," I've been thinking about starting my own comic strip but I'm still not sure if I can consistenly churn up new funny material. I've also been toying with the concept of doing caricatures of celebrities ... or maybe one of you? What do you think? Would you want me to do a quickie sketch of you? Have you seen my illustration website?

I wish I could post more of my caricatures but most are handed out to my clients as soon as I'm done drawing them. Unlike the sketch artists in an amusement park who seem to work off a template, my drawings are deeply personal. At least I'd like to think so.

I draw by first impressions. I spot the facial idiosyncracies and try to bring that out. Depending on how tired I am, there are good days (when the proportions in my head and the dexterity of my fingers communicate well) and there are bad days (when I struggle to capture the likeness).

Let me know what you like to see this 2015. Let me know how I can make your Friday mornings more enjoyable. I am here to serve.

Wisdom from Naomi of N Hollywood, CA
Words of Wisdom

We come to love not by finding a perfect person but by learning to see an imperfect person perfectly.

Another Year
Contributed by Tom of Pasadena, CA.

Another year has passed
And we're all a little older.
Last summer felt hotter
And winter seems colder.

There was a time not long ago
When life was quite a blast.
Now I fully understand
About 'Living in the Past'

We used to go to weddings,
Football games and lunches..
Now we go to funeral homes
And after-funeral brunches.

We used to have hangovers,
From parties that were gay.
Now we suffer body aches
And wile the night away.

We used to go out dining,
And couldn't get our fill.
Now we ask for doggie bags,
Come home and take a pill.

We used to often travel
To places near and far.
Now we get sore backs
From riding in the car.

We used to go to nightclubs
And drink a little booze.
Now we stay home at night
And watch the evening news.

That, my friend is how life is,
And now my tale is told.
So, enjoy each day and live it up...
Before you're too darned old!

How to Wrap a Cat
Contributed by Cheryl of Arcadia, California

How to Wrap a Cat

Sounds crazy doesn't it? But this cat actually stayed put as its master wrapped it up like a Christmas gift. Now how do you train a cat to do that?

Rankings of the World's Air Forces
Contributed by Tom of Pasadena, CA

Air Forces of the World

Great photo presentation put together by Israelis. Some of the rankings may surprise you; they did me. I was especially surprised that China did not even make the top ten, but then with that many people maybe it's not that critical to them. Note what the US spends to train each pilot.

Ferrari in the City Streets

Ferrari in cities

Get your motor running! Ferrari pulled several of their race cars from various ages out of storage, flew them around the world and filmed them running through the streets of Rome, Rio, New York, Hong Kong, Honolulu and Monaco. Dig the sound of 13,000 RPM!

Biking in the USA: Amateurs Compared to Europe
Contributed by Levon of Los Angeles, CA

Biking in the USA

Levon is a biker and he thought we should spread the word out. Biking is one of the things I wish I learned when I was younger. I still cannot bike. Sad but true. But I think this is a video that our legislators should see. This was made by a Dutch and he has a website that shows how they bike in his country. Click here.

Bike Parking in Tokyo

Bike parking in Tokyo

We end this TGIF edition with one more video about travel/biking. This time it is about how the Japanese work around their limited space in order to park their bike. Very hi-tech of course.

TGIF people! Let's start the year with healthy exercise.
