Window Replacement

GRATITUDE
A very strange thing happened last Friday. I volunteered to do caricatures for a non-profit community outreach for teens. At the outset, I was surprised because none of the organizers facilitated my activity. Sure they greeted me and showed me the general area where I was to set up shop but that was it. As soon as I sat down people waited in line ...and boy was there a line! At one point an argument broke out between an old lady and a father with his young son. I sat and sketched non-stop from 5pm to 9pm. In fact I was oblivious that it was past 8 when my stomach started to growl and I begged for food. And all they could provide was a light snack even though there was a food truck among the many activities. If it wasn't for closing time I would have gone on because of the line. I packed my stuff and headed out of the area ... no one helped me ... no one other than the people I drew thanked me. This never happened before. I was exhausted, I was used. To this day not a word of thanks from the organizers has reached me. I hate to admit it but it hurts. What are we teaching our kids nowadays? Saying "Thank You" is such an important but vanishing virtue.

And then in my grief, I thought about prayer. And I realized my own shortcomings. How often do we take our blessings for granted? How often have we escaped an accident or avoided an inconvenience or been endowed with an unexpected, undeserved gift?

A whisper of thanks would have sufficed. Hmmm ...

Words of Wisdom

Stay away from Anger.
It hurts only you and nobody else.

If you are right, then there is no need to get angry;

And if you are wrong, then you don't have any right to get angry.

Window Replacement Invoice

Dear Diary,

Last year I replaced all the windows in my house with the expensive double-pane energy-efficient kind. Then this week I got a call from the contractor who installed them. He was complaining that the work had been completed a whole year ago and I still had not paid for them.

Now just because I'm an airhead doesn't mean that I am automatically stupid. So, I told him just what his fast-talking sales guy had told me last year... namely, that in ONE YEAR these windows would pay for themselves! Helllllooooo??? It's been a year!

There was only silence at the other end of the line, so I finally just hung up. He did not call back. Boy, I bet he felt dumb!!

A God Send

A woman received a call that her daughter was sick. She stopped by the pharmacy to get medication, got back to her car and found that she had locked her keys inside.

The woman found an old rusty coat hanger left on the ground. She looked at it and said "I don't know how to use this." She bowed her head and asked God to send her HELP.

Within 5 minutes a beat up old motorcycle pulled up. The driver was a burly looking man. The man got off of his cycle and asked if he could help.

She said: "Yes, my daughter is sick. I’ve locked my keys in my car. I must get home. Please, can you use this hanger to unlock my car?"

He said "Sure." He walked over to the car, and in less than a minute the car was open. She hugged the man and through tears said "Thank You SO Much! You are a very nice man."

The man replied "Lady, I am NOT a nice man. I just got out of PRISON yesterday, I was in prison for car theft."

The woman hugged the man again sobbing, "Oh, thank you God!
You even sent me a Professional!"

Archie Bunker Goes to the Hospital

Archie Bunker in hospital

Here's a clip from that 70's sitcom, "All in the Family."
Reminds me of my own appointment where modesty became a challenge. Whoever invented that hospital gown with that opening at the back had a sick sense of humor. Couldn't the gown be easily pulled up or down? I mean really!

14 year old guitarist

Is this girl amazing or what? Her stoic expression belies the complexity of her craft. Look around her Youtube page and you will see other videos she's done. There's even one of her doing classical guitar at age 9. Ellen deGeneres is looking for her. Van Halen too.

Geriatric Traffic

Here's a study of patience stretched to the limit. Pretty funny even though you know what to expect.

Creative Honda History Ad

Talk about a creative approach to a boring subject. I didn't realize Honda developed so many products. The video culminates with Honda's latest endeavor --- the Honda jet!

Quick Way to Test Your Battery

TOkyo in hi-res

I haven't tested this out yet but Tom said he did and it works depending on how much "juice" is left in the battery. I think this is pretty cool.
