Grandma's Home Remedies

THE RETURN TO BASKETBALL

I instilled my love for basketball to my son when he was growing up. I remember that at the tender age of 2 he was dribbling at the entrance of a toy store and a crowd quickly formed around him. He never looked back. Today he's turned into my trainer.

The last time I played basketball was well over a year and a half ago. When we moved I lost my old basketball playmates and searched for suitable replacements but there was none. With no incentive to exercise I started my physical degredation. My rusty body needed a lot of oiling and polishing. Fortunately, my son (who is on an extended visit) forced me to stretch and run and I am now returning to my old glory.

Yesterday I discovered a group of men around my age and played my first full court game. I have returned from the dead. Yup! This petrified tree is back in the forest!

If you have ever wished to regain your youthful strength, I am proof that it can be done. All it needs is a little will power and (of course) a dedicated trainer who loves you enough to push you to your limits.

Youth is a wonderful thing ... especially if it is returned to you by your children. I knew there was a reason God created kids.

“For better digestion I drink beer, in the case of appetite loss I drink white wine, in the case of low blood pressure I drink red wine, in the case of high blood pressure I drink scotch, and when I have a cold I drink schnapps.”

Doctor: “When do you drink water?”

“I’ve never been that sick!”

From the TGIF vault: Probably the most popular joke I ever illustrated. I have received this joke and the illustrations several times through the years with the sender not realizing I made the drawings.

Monastery Life
Originally sent by Rod of Arcadia, CA on May 12, 2006

A young monk arrives at the monastery. He is assigned to helping the other monks in copying the old canons and laws of the church by hand.

He notices, however, that all of the monks are copying from copies, not from the original manuscript. So, the new monk goes to the head abbot to question this, pointing out that if someone made even a small error in the first copy, it would never be picked up! In fact, that error would be continued in all of the subsequent copies.

The head monk, says, "We have been copying from the copies for centuries, but you make a good point, my son."

He goes down into the dark caves underneath the monastery where the original manuscripts are held as archives in a locked vault that hasn't been opened for hundreds of years. Hours go by and nobody sees the old abbot.

So, the young monk gets worried and goes down to look for him. He sees him banging his head against the wall and wailing,
"We missed the "
R" ! , we missed the "R" !"

His forehead is all bloody and bruised and he is crying
uncontrollably. The young monk asks the old abbot, "What's wrong, father?"

With A choking voice, the old abbot replies, "The word was CELEBRATE."

Comments

I found a way to chase the doldrums of a Saturday when there are no interesting programs to watch on TV. I went thru previous TGIF and watched again my favorites. This afternoon, I watched the Circus Soliel at the academy awards. Spectacular. Made my day. Thanks Raoul.

When I was in my mid-30’s, I cracked my ankle playing volleyball. It causes pain now that I am older.

When I was almost 40, I was still practicing martial arts and saw another student get hurt and they had to take him away in an ambulance. I realized that as the sole source of my income and not being able to recover as fast as I did when I was younger, I should concentrate on less “dangerous” athletic activities. So I focused on my gym workouts to where I am at Gold’s six days a week.

Bottom line is always do something active. We spend too much time at our desks. I’m off to Gold’s at 3:30 today.

About your return to basketball, where’s the pool on how soon you break or hurt something?

As someone with said experience, I figure the bet will be easy money

Tom

O How I love the Tskaichowsky flash dance. I notice the faces of the performers, mostly young people with vigor and enthusiasm. I pray that they are all okay, and please God, give them all Thy peace.

P.S. I'm glad you got back your own vigor thru the enthusiasm of your son.
