Not Working

TREMORS

My neighborhood, here in the Los Angeles area, has been Earthquake Central ever since last Friday. It was a 5.1 quake. Thankfully, aside from a few picture frames and cabinet items that were toppled down, our home was practically unscathed. Neighbors came over and exchanged anecdotes of their reactions. Some were shocked and petrified, others ran out of their homes and others were calm and collected. One husband ran out of their home while his wife held on to their wide screen TV that threatend to tip over. "I'm not leaving because I paid for this!" was her excuse. We may laugh in retrospect but what if the rector scale was off the charts?

Our natural tendency is to talk about the science behind the ever-shifting earth crust but how about reflecting on the awesome power behind this force of nature? When the building was shaking like a cardboard box, I saw a glimpse of the sleeping energy and I refocused all of my immediate concerns. My job projects weren't really that important. I thought about the safety of my family. I thought about death. Natural disasters can be viewed as a calamity or a reminder that God is (and always will be) in control. Sometimes I think that's His way of saying, "you ain't seen nothin' yet! Wait till I answer your prayers!" So ... how is it between you and Him?

"O you men of little faith! Why are you so frightened?” Then he stood up and rebuked the wind and waves, and the storm subsided and all was calm. The disciples just sat there, awed! “Who is this,” they asked themselves, “that even the winds and the sea obey him?”

It's Not Working
Sent by Tom of Pasadena, CA

Came home from the golf course today. The wife had left a note on the refrigerator:

"IT'S NOT WORKING, I can't take it anymore!! Gone to stay with my mother."

I opened the refrigerator, the light came on, the beer was cold...

What the heck is she talking about?

The Lord is My Shepherd
Sent by Mandy A. of Quezon City, Philippines

A Sunday School teacher decided to have her young class memorize one of the most quoted passages in the Bible – Psalm 23. She gave the youngsters a month to learn the chapter. Little Rick was excited about the task – but he just couldn't remember the Psalm. After much practice, he could barely get past the first line.

On the day that the kids were scheduled to recite Psalm 23 in front of the congregation, Ricky was so nervous. When it was his turn, he stepped up to the microphone and said proudly, "The Lord is my Shepherd, and that's all I need to know."

Nice job reminding everyone that God is in control all the time, Raoul! Glad to hear that you and your whole family are safe.

Thanks Raoul.
Great collection Loved Matthews words of real Wisdom being the Reporter he was!

Tom of Pasadena

Our house had no damage or fallen items, just a long, rolling shake. I was here alone and headed to the doorway and held on with one hand and the other hand holding on to the bedroom tv. We are fairly close to the epicenter, but we were fortunate. Thankfully, it was no stronger than it was.
Thank you for the TGIF! Have a nice weekend.

Enjoyed this as usual. i like your comment about God's power. One time, when there was a storm, I experienced God's power actually. Will tell you more some time. Thank the Lord, you got thru the earthquake believing in His ultimate power. I experienced the same.
